Google Steals Yahoo’s Idea and Launches Google Instant !!

My collegue Matt who is Head of SEO at SeoNext wrote an article today about google instant search and its possible effect on seo today right after the launch of Google’s new search “Google Instant”. Now i will like to share a fact which not many people will know..
Yahoo Had the same product since 2005 !!
Although every one is amazed to see google’s new innovation i am sure no one knows that Yahoo had the same product back in 2005, and yet they never manager to create the Buzz around. YES !! Being an avid reader, and i do not miss any blog or news related to search or going through ANY Internet Marketing product which is launched in the market just to make sure that i am aware of every single thing happening in my niche and i have this habit from my startig days into the IM arena back in 2004-2005.
I still remember clearly yahoo announced launch of its new search techonology which worked exactly the way Google Instant works but they were never confident enought to launch it on the main yahoo.com search. Instead they made this live on the newly acquired All the web Search Engine
As you can see in the screen shot above the results and mechanism was exactly same just some change in design and secondly Yahoo did not show the grey text and hence they did not try and manupulate the search queries or users original thoughts (to a great extend) unlike google.
The only difference is that Google has the confidence to roll it out on main search results where as yahoo never had the guts and who knows that it might have been their only chance to beat the big G ?
I am sure if yahoo did a patent on this technology, it would have acted like a cash cow for them. Imagine getting royality from google for each search made using the ajax based search technology.
In my view the only change this can have on search engine optimisation (SEO) is that the volumes of keyword search traffic might change because of teh suggestions but Darwin’s theory of survival of the fittest will always be applicable and there might be some people who would be able to take benefit of this change.
Are you one of them?
Feel free to post your comments on how can webmasters and internet marketers benefit from Google Instant search and what will be the impact of query suggestions appearing in the search box ?
